“Many primary schools offer robotics as part of their curriculum as an engaging way generate student interest in problem-solving and other STEM skills. Using robots in classrooms can help foster critical thinking, coding, engineering, mathematics and design skills.” National Robotics Strategy, 2025, p55
Description
Are you ready and equipped to engage your students with learning robotics? For over a decade, a large range of robotics products and programs have made their way into primary school classrooms, yet many teachers feel unequipped to engage their students with meaningful robotics learning. LEGO® Education’s latest robotics system, SpikeTM, combines the familiarity of building with LEGO bricks with the popular Scratch Junior and Scratch coding languages to provide a framework for robotics learning in schools that is accessible to students and within the capacity of all teachers to incorporate in their teaching and learning programs.
This professional learning day brings educators together to explore the potential of using LEGO Spike in their own schools and classrooms, and gives them the tools and confidence to implement engaging curriculum-linked robotics learning with their students.

Topics explored in this workshop include:
-
What is a robot?
-
Robotics in Australia: now and in the future
-
Why use robotics in primary school?
-
A robot paradigm for the classroom
-
Linking robotics learning to the Science & Technology K-6 Syllabus (2017 and 2024)
-
Planning and logistics of robotics learning in your school and in your classroom
-
Hands-on experience (3 hours) building and coding both LEGO Spike Essential (for Stages 1 & 2) and LEGO Spike Prime (for Stage 3)
This is more than just a professional learning course – it is an opportunity to invest in the future of your students, our region and our country. As we ignite our students’ passion for problem solving and critical thinking, we are also building Australia’s capacity to develop and use robotics and automation technologies to strengthen competitiveness, boost productivity and support local communities.
